A. They don't know who you are.
or
B. They don't care who you are.
Either way...you probably don't really want to know the answer.
So, don't ask the question.
For the second time this week, a professional athlete made the mistake of asking the ego-deflating question, "Do you know who I am?" while being arrested.
I don't know which of the categories above the arresting officers fell into, but it doesn't really make a difference.
The question didn't save either NFL wide receiver Legedu Naanee or MLB slugger Miguel Cabrera from being arrested.
Has going to the Do-you-know-who-I-am card ever worked out well for anybody?
I doubt it.
As is usually the case, the problem with Naanee and Cabrera is that they never ask themselves, "Do I know who I am?" in those situations and save themselves some trouble.
Both of these athletes should know who they are and what they risk by getting arrested before getting themselves into situations detrimental to their careers.
Naanee was not likely going to be a San Diego Charger much longer.
He spends too much time injured.
But, as a free agent, he may have drawn some interest from other teams.
His arrest doesn't make Naanee very appealing to other NFL teams (at least not the good ones).
Cabrera was coming off of a great season with the Detroit Tigers.
With his career-high 38 homeruns last year and another impact season this year, he could have put some of his past problems to rest for good.
I hope he enjoyed that scotch. Maybe he should have offered the officer a swig.
Take a lesson from these guys.
Unless you have suffered amnesia and need assistance remembering your name, never ask a police officer "Do you know who I am?"
Don't play that card.
It's just not going to work out for you.....ask anybody whose tried it.
Salma Hyek has nothing to do with the story. But, you really didn't want to see a pic of Miguel or Legedu did ya'? |
